On 25 January 2018, NATO StratCom Center of Excellence in Riga presented two new studies on Russian information influence. Among the presenters were two people from the ICDS.
First of the two studies “Russia’s Footprint in the Nordic-Baltic Information Environment” reflects outcomes of an ongoing project run by the NATO StratCom COE. This report covers the period of 2016-2017 and analyses Russia’s ‘Grand Strategy’ in the Nordic-Baltic region, its compatriots’ policy, narratives promoted by the Sputnik, RT and Perviy Kanal as well as presents a pilot research of the public opinion vis-à-vis these narratives. Report was presented by doctors Ieva Bērziņa and Ivo Juurvee and Mr. Māris Cepurītis.
The second research “Analysis of Russian-language public posts and profiles in social media in the Baltic states” is conducted by Estonia’s National Centre for Defence & Security Awareness. Presenters were Dmitri Teperik and Kateryna Kononova.
There were well over a hundred participants at the event and it enjoyed some media coverage in the countries north of Latvia – in Estonian Public Broadcasting including its main news (see 15’13’’-17’20’’) and in Finnish best-selling daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
