Prospects for European Defence and Security Co-Operation

On November 13 Henrik Praks spoke at the public discussion „Which Future for the European Defence and Security“ held in Riga.

The event was organised by the Latvian Institute of International Affairs in co-operation with Estonian, French and German Embassies.

Henrik Praks contributed to the panel on external dimension of the security and defence in the EU. He outlined the opportunities provided by the current political momentum in European defence discussions, but also certain challenges related to ensuring the coherence of efforts between those undertaken within EU and NATO. Speaking about the EU’s new permanent structured cooperation (PESCO) initiative he outlined the facilitation of the cross-border movement of military material and personnel as one of the most promising PESCO projects.
