On May 16-17, the ICDS Research Fellow Henrik Praks was among the discussants during the workshop “The Baltic Sea Region in a Changing World”. The event was hosted by the Warsaw Office of the German Marshall Fund in co-operation with the Söderton University and was held in university’s premises in Stockholm.
The topics of the workshop included issues related to the rise of populism on both sides of the Atlantic, interlinkages between energy, security and environment in the Baltic Sea region and responding to the Russian threat in the information space. In case of the latter topic Henrik Praks was among the panellists introducing the subject. He discussed the Russian influence operations and information warfare from the Estonian perspective, including the tactics and messages used. Furthermore, he spoke about the efforts undertaken by Estonian authorities to confront fake news and hostile propaganda, including in providing alternative information sources to the country’s Russian-speaking population.
