On 16 November, Tony Lawrence chaired a panel at the European Defence Agency’s Maritime Security Conference 2017, “The importance of an innovative approach for maritime security”.
The conference, organised by EDA under the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU, was held at the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center in Crete.
The panel, entitled “The impacts of the EU Maritime Security Strategy”, discussed options for the cross sectoral implementation of the EU Global Strategy and EU Maritime Security Strategy, paying particular attention to capability aspects. The panellists were Vice Admiral Ioannis Pavlopoulos, Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet; Christos Malikkides, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Cyprus; Chief Superintendent Ingo Alvermann, Head of Germany’s Federal Command and Control Centre for Maritime Security; and Rini Goos, Deputy Chief Executive of the European Defence Agency.
