The members of the panel of experts credited Laaneots for remaining on message and being conversant with the topic. According to Piret Pernik of the International centre for Defence and Security, Laaneots demonstrated good knowledge of the military sphere, and highlighted the threat posed in the Russian media sphere and the main problem facing national defence – there are human resources but not enough training. “He dared to diverge from the party’s position – stressing that Estonian instruction was necessary in nursery school and in grades 1-9,” said Pernik.
