Energy Security and Digitization

Piret Pernik, a Research Fellow at ICDS, spoke in a panel at the sixth Opinion Festival that took place in Paide, Estonia on 10-11 August.

Piret was a speaker at the Energy Security and Digitization Panel which was moderated by Taavi Veskimägi, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of a company Elering, the electricity and gas system operator in Estonia. Other speakers at the panel were Anto Veldre, an Information Security Expert, and Oliver Väärtnõu, the CEO of a company Cybernetica that developed Estonia’s X-Road and Internet voting systems. The speakers discussed the increasing cyber security threats to the energy sector, the implications at the national and organisational level, as well as responses at industry and individual levels. Over the course of two days the festival brought together over 10,000 people taking part in 160 discussions spread across four areas.
