Becoming “Estlanders”

The parties currently getting ready for elections would do well to think about how to supplement civic identity with a broader geographic identity that would also include non-citizens. The new term I propose, “eestimaalased” (“people of Estonia” or “Estlanders”), wouldn’t replace ethnic identity or European values, but it would territorially unite all people living in Estonia.
