U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns visited ICDS

On May 16, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, accompanied by Ambassador Michael Polt and members of the U.S. Embassy staff, visited ICDS. He was welcomed by Director of ICDS Ambassador Matthew Bryza, Member of the ICDS Executive Board Martin Hurt and the Centre’s researchers who introduced their activities and analytical approaches to the second highest ranking diplomat in the United States.

In the ensuing discussion, the issues of Nordic-Baltic regional security, NATO’s collective defence, political developments in Russia, U.S. foreign policy, Estonia’s cyber defence and general defence planning were explored. At the premises of ICDS, Deputy Secretary Burns was also interviewed for a TV programme Välisilm by the Estonian National Broadcasting Corporation.
