Prime minister visits ICDS

On 7 January 2015, Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas visited the International Centre for Defence and Security.

ICDS director Matthew Bryza introduced the centre’s objectives, which focus on helping the Estonian Ministry of Defense adopt NATO’s best practices, maintaining the transatlantic community’s strategic focus on the security challenges of the Baltic-Nordic region, and reminding Estonia’s Allies of the contributions Estonia makes to transatlantic security as one of NATO’s key frontline states.
The ensuing discussion with the prime minister focused on implementation of comprehensive security principles in Estonia – a time-consuming process that will require great effort from the Cabinet’s security committee and the Government Office in coordinating public and private sector activities. Opportunities for strengthening Estonian society as a whole in the current security situation were, as well as energy security, also discussed.
