Discussion on Southeast Asian views

On the 10th of September ICDS held a roundtable with Mr Adrian Tan to discuss Southeast Asian views of the regional and global security environment. 

He provided a perspective on China’s role in the region and its relations with the Southeast Asian states.

The questions discussed included also:

  • How are the developments in US-China relationship influencing the region?
  • How is the role of the US seen from the perspective of the region?
  • Russian attempts to increase its influence the region and how developments in Europe are seen from the Southeast Asian perspective.

Mr Adrian Tan is the Executive Coordinator, Policy Research Office; Head of Special Projects, and Deputy Director of Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS), S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Prior to joining RSIS, Adrian was with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for two decades. His current research interests relate to the politics of Southeast Asia. He has a Masters in Arts from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the National University of Singapore.

The roundtable, held under Chatham House rule, was moderated by ICDS Research Fellow Henrik Praks.
