Valeriy Akimenko

Valeriy Akimenko has had a 25-year career with the BBC Monitoring Service (BBCM), covering Ukraine and Russia for British and allied government customers. He is a long-term specialist in reporting and analysis on the Russian armed forces. In the current decade, Mr Akimenko has also contributed to the work of the Conflict Studies Research Centre on a variety of Russian military projects for organisations, including NATO, Chatham House, and the UK Ministry of Defence. His current primary focus is reporting on Russia’s war on Ukraine. Mr Akimenko’s specific areas of expertise are Russian military capabilities, including Russia’s nuclear arsenal, land forces, navy, air force, and information operations.
