Alar Streimann

Alar Streimann joined the Estonian Foreign Ministry in 1991. As one of the longest-serving Estonian diplomats, he has worked at various posts both at home and abroad, among others as Ambassador to Germany, France, Sweden, the OECD, and the Council of Europe. From 1997 to 2003, he served as the Estonian Chief Negotiator for EU accession and, from 2011 to 2015, as the Secretary General of the MFA. From 2023 to 2026, he has been reading on diplomacy and foreign policy as a Visiting Professor at the Johan Skytte Institute for Political Studies at the University of Tartu. He also represents Estonia in the High-Level Group of Advisors for Ukrainian EU accession, established by the Nordic and Baltic governments in 2024.
