The 17th Annual Baltic Conference on Defence will start today in Tallinn, with a focus on mobilising ourselves to deter another war in Europe. Among the keynote speakers at the conference will be Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, General Darryl A. Williams (Commander of USAREUR-AF and NATO Allied Land Command, United States Army) and Lieutenant General Ralph Woodisse (Commander Field Army, British Army).
“This year’s conference sends two important messages: first, it should encourage us to strategise in bold terms when facing a severe threat to Europe from a neo-imperial power. Losing would damage the prospects of European and global security for generations to come,” said the director of the conference and head of research at the International Centre for Defence and Security (ICDS), Tomas Jermalavičius. “Second, we want to make clear that Russia will not stand down if it is allowed to prevail against Ukraine. It will not stop unless it is stopped by the properly mobilised collective power of the West. We have to understand what a mobilisation to fully push Russia back really entails and if we are resourceful enough to achieve it.”
Almost 300 speakers and guests are participating at the conference titled “A Silver Medal is Not Good Enough: Mobilising Ourselves to Deter Another War in Europe”. It will take place on September 26–27 in Nordic Hotel Forum.
