Breaching the Skies: Reactions from Estonia and Taiwan to Airspace Violations

On 19 September 2025, Russian fighter jets violated Estonian airspace for 12 minutes., the fourth incursion by Russian military aircraft of the year. PLA aircraft violated Taiwan’s Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) over 1 000 times in 2024 alone.

The seminar will compare Estonian and Taiwanese experiences, highlighting similarities and differences in threat perception, response mechanisms, and strategic communication. It will consider what Tallinn and Taipei can learn from each other in terms of deterrence, resilience, and international engagement, aiming to identify practical ways to strengthen airspace sovereignty in the face of persistent violations.
