Dr Henrik Larsen joined ICDS as a Non-Resident Research Fellow in 2023. Until June 2023, he was a Senior Researcher in the Swiss and Euro-Atlantic Security Team at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) of ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule) Zürich, with a focus on NATO and transatlantic security. Before joining the CSS, he served as a Political Adviser with the EU Delegation to Ukraine and before that with the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). He was previously a Research Fellow with the Belfer Center at Harvard University’s Kennedy School, a Fellow with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a Visiting Researcher at Stanford University’s Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law. He worked at the United Nations in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the École Militaire in Paris, and the Russia Department of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He completed his PhD jointly between the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) and the University of Southern Denmark with a dissertation on NATO and democratisation. His articles have appeared in The Washington Quarterly, The RUSI Journal, Survival, European Security, and the Journal of Transatlantic Studies, and he has published analyses and op-eds in Foreign Policy, Lawfare, War on the Rocks, and Internationale Politik Quarterly, in addition to several think-tank publications.
