On November 16 at Reval Hotel Olümpia, the International Centre for Defence Studies and the Nordic Council of Ministers organised a presentation and discussion of the “Stoltenberg Report” on the future prospects of Nordic cooperation on foreign and security policy.
In June 2008, Mr Thorvald Stoltenberg, former Norwegian Foreign Minister, was asked by incumbent Nordic foreign ministers to paint a vision of the future of the Nordic countries’ common foreign and security policy for the next 10–15 years. He delivered his report on February 9, 2009. Since then, it has become a subject of heated discussion and has evoked a strong resonance in all Nordic countries.
The report was presented by Mr Sverre Jervell, Senior Adviser to the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and a co-author of the report. The significance and impact of the report for the Baltic states was discussed by Mr Margus Kolga, Director General of the First Political Department of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, Mr Kaspars Ozolins, Director of the Security Policy Department of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, and Mr Gediminas Varvuolis, Director of the Transatlantic Cooperation and Security Policy Department of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry.
The discussion panel was moderated by Riina Kaljurand, Deputy Director of the ICDS. The working language was English.
