ICDS Organised in Sumy Public Discussion on “Baltic and Ukrainian Experience in Strengthening National Resilience”

Discussion was held on 14 May 2019 at Sumy National University where journalists, students, professors and civic activists had a chance to discuss the topic of resilience with the Estonian ambassador Gert Antsu, Latvian ambassador Juris Poikans and Lithuanian Ambassador Marius Janukonis. In total, there were more than 100 participants.

ICDS Chief Executive Dmitri Teperik presented the development co-operation programme “Resilient Ukraine”. According to him, regions in Ukraine are very important building blocks of national resilience with civic society in its roots.

Estonian ambassador Gert Antsu mentioned that Ukraine is facing currently more potential risks in comparison to Estonia. “For instance, cyberattacks against Ukraine might have much greater consequences,” added the ambassador.

Panel participants exchanged views on factors that influence nation’s capacity to recover, adopt, function and improve it during the time of crisis. Additionally, they discussed Baltic experience in forming citizens’ trust to governmental institutions, maintaining foreign policy vector and developing of media literacy as main components of information security.
